"Is it a steam train!?" |
In fact there were two of these beautiful old steam tractors that were travelling home from a steam rally not so far from here and stopping for the night.
It was one of our more unusual finds, but we've also run down the road (on one occasion with the boys still in their pyjamas) to see the road sweeper in action, been on lots of visits over to the rec to see the tractor mower and had millions of expeditions to see the various diggers at work round the village:
One summer holiday began with a back-hoe loader making a new "route to school" right outside our back gate- hours of entertainment!
From our garden we are within earshot of the field beyond the rec, which is how we knew when they were using the forage harvester to cut the corn-on-the-cob plants.
And we've also chased tractors in the rain to find out what they're up to and where they're going.
But we honestly never expected to hear one of these trundling by!
So for a quick and easy activity, stand outside, listen for an interesting sound and then go and investigate!
Boys love all different types of vehicles don't they - we have some houses being built and it's all very exciting.
ReplyDeleteCan't say we've run into a darlik lol
Afterwards my younger son, who'd never seen Dr Who, said, "That was amazing to see a garlic outside our gate!"
DeleteHa Ha, this post is brilliant. Last year when the combines where out and about in the fields opposite us my husband stood for ages with our little boy, bearing in mind he was only about 6 months old, watching them with the excuse he was showing them to Little Man. Boys and vehicles, they never grow out of it!!
ReplyDeleteLol, it's true. And I'm afraid I've caught it too- found myself nearly hyperventilating when we drove over a hill last summer and saw a Class Lexion combine at work in the field infront of us!
DeleteFab post! Got to love a Dalek!
ReplyDeleteI wondered if you were interested in finding out more about a forthcoming report from a national charity on a literacy crisis.
They are looking for bloggers to help them spread awareness.

Fun! Even our little lane has some interesting travellers, including a regular roman. Also a band of druids once. Farm vehicles are the norm and very fascinating to my 6 yo son. #CountryKids
ReplyDeleteOh! My son would love to see a Roman, as they're doing Romans in school. x
DeleteSounds are fun and they keep me feel at home. I am from acountry where theres life 24/7 and when I got here I got so depress. When we transfer to a noisy place I felt better again. I just find peace in noise. Weird =)
ReplyDeleteNice post. Something different =)

My nephew grew up in London, and when they moved to the country he used to really cry at night because it was so quiet! It's funny how the sounds you know are so much part of your home.
DeleteOh what fun, nothing so exciting passes by our tiny little lane. I love the old steam train and the darlik is priceless! Thank you for sharing your unusual passings by on Country Kids
ReplyDeleteThe dalek was a big surprise, and I found it hilarious that it had so much trouble getting onto the pavement- definitely old style and not one of the new flying ones!
